How hotels are covered
Every fact on a hotel page comes from a source you could check yourself, and every page says when it was last checked.
Which hotels are covered
The guide covers hotels in Gstaad and the villages around it that you can book online and that have photographs to show what they are like. Small inns that have neither are not listed, however good they may be. Hotels cannot pay to be included, and the order of a list is never a ranking.
Sources
Facts are read from the hotel’s own website first, then from the commune and the tourist office (gstaad.ch, alpesvaudoises.ch, pays-denhaut.ch), and for restaurants from gaultmillau.ch and guide.michelin.com. Review sites and booking sites are used to find questions, not answers: a drawback only appears under “The catch” when a primary source supports it, and each one links to that source.
Distances and drive times
Drive times to the Glacier 3000 cable car at Col du Pillon are routed on OpenStreetMap data with free-flowing traffic. Real winter times are longer, and the pages say so. Walking times to lifts and stations are the hotel’s own figures unless a page says otherwise.
Classification
Star ratings are the official Swiss classification (HotellerieSuisse or GastroSuisse) as listed by the tourist office. Hotels without one are shown as not classified, which says nothing about quality: some smaller hotels are simply not members.
Prices
A “from” price is shown only once it has been read for a real, bookable night: one midweek night in January for two adults, the cheaper of the hotel’s own website and Expedia. Until then a hotel page shows no price rather than an estimate. Tourist taxes are charged on top in every village.
Restaurants
Gault&Millau points are from the 2027 guide, published in October 2026. No restaurant in the area holds a Michelin star in the current guide; the 2026 Swiss selection is published in November 2026 and the pages will be checked against it.
Corrections
If something on a page is wrong or out of date, write to hello@gstaadhotelguide.com. Corrections from hotels are welcome too, with a link to where the fact is published.
