Hotels in Gsteig

Gsteig is the last village before the Col du Pillon, gathered around a late-Gothic church. It is the closest Saanenland village to Glacier 3000: the Col du Pillon base station is 7 km away, about 8 minutes by car or 11 minutes on PostBus 180, and the Reusch gondola is on the same road. There is a small village ski lift, and a cross-country trail runs down the valley to Gstaad. The Gstaad ski areas are about 10 minutes away. The Gstaad Card covers the bus.

Before you go to Gsteig

Getting there

Gsteig has no railway; it is on PostBus line 180, about 16 minutes from Gstaad station and free with the Gstaad Card. The same bus carries on over the Col du Pillon to Glacier 3000 and Les Diablerets. Trains arrive at Gstaad on the GoldenPass line. By car, Gsteig is on the Col du Pillon road between Gstaad and Les Diablerets, with the Reusch car park for Glacier 3000 just beyond the village.

Skiing

Gsteig is the Saanenland village for Glacier 3000, open for skiing from 7 November 2026 to 30 April 2027, with the Reusch gondola and the Col du Pillon cable car both a few minutes up the road. Cross-country trails run at Gsteig and at Reusch. The Wispile sled run from Gstaad ends in the village, about 8 km long. The Eggli and Wispile lifts in Gstaad are about 10 minutes away.

Guest card and tax

Hotel guests in Gsteig get the Gstaad Card from the first night, with the Saani Card for children 6 to 12. A visitor's tax is charged per night.

Staying in Gsteig

Is Gsteig a good base for Glacier 3000?

It is the closest Saanenland village to it: PostBus 180 reaches Col du Pillon in about 11 minutes, free with the Gstaad Card. Glacier 3000 can close in strong wind, so it helps that the Gstaad lifts are also about 10 minutes away.

How do you get from Gstaad to Gsteig?

PostBus 180 runs from Gstaad station to Gsteig Post in about 16 minutes and is free with the Gstaad Card. By car it is the same road, towards the Col du Pillon. On ski days, check the last bus back, as winter services end in the late afternoon.
