Hotels in Schönried

Schönried is a village with its own station on the GoldenPass line. A lift runs from the village centre up to the Horneggli, part of the region's largest ski sector, so skiers can start from the village. Cross-country tracks and walking paths leave from the hotel doors. The Gstaad Card makes the train to Gstaad free. Glacier 3000 is about 28 minutes by car, or 42 to 44 minutes by train and bus.

Before you go to Schönried

Getting there

Schönried station is on the GoldenPass line between Gstaad and Saanenmöser: about nine minutes by regional train from Gstaad, and about five more to Saanenmöser. PostBus 183 also runs from Gstaad through Saanen to Schönried station in about 17 minutes. For trains from Bern, change at Zweisimmen. For Glacier 3000 without a car, take the train to Gstaad and PostBus 180 from there.

Skiing

The Horneggli lift leaves from the village centre and is one of three ways into the Rinderberg, Saanersloch and Horneggli area, the largest in the Gstaad region, which links Schönried with Saanenmöser, Zweisimmen and St. Stephan. The Rellerli has no cable car in winter; it is used for ski touring, snowshoeing and winter walks. Cross-country options include a floodlit night trail, the short Moos loop, a skills park and trails to Saanenmöser.

Guest card and tax

Schönried hotels give guests the Gstaad Card from the first night, with the Saani Card for children 6 to 12. It covers the GoldenPass train to Gstaad and Saanenmöser and the PostBuses around the Saanenland, including line 180 to Glacier 3000, on arrival and departure days too. Ski passes are not included. A visitor's tax is charged per night.

Visitor's tax: CHF 5.80 per adult per night, plus a Canton of Bern lodging tax of CHF 1.00 per night. Ages 6 to 12 pay half; under 6 free. Source

Staying in Schönried

How does Schönried compare with Saanenmöser for skiing?

Both sit on the same Rinderberg, Saanersloch and Horneggli area. Schönried starts on the Horneggli lift in the village; Saanenmöser starts on the Saanersloch gondola beside its station. The train between them takes about five minutes, so the choice usually comes down to the hotel.

How long is the train from Schönried to Gstaad?

About nine minutes on the regional GoldenPass train, free with the Gstaad Card. PostBus 183 takes longer, about 17 minutes via Saanen. Hotels in Schönried are close to the station, so most guests can manage without a car.
