Before you go to Saanen

Getting there

Saanen station is one stop from Gstaad on the GoldenPass line, about three minutes by regional train. PostBus 183 also links the two in about seven minutes and carries on to Schönried station.

Skiing

Saanen hotels are not on the slopes, so a ski day starts with a short hop. The Eggli and Wispile gondolas are in Gstaad, one stop away, and Schönried's Horneggli lift is the way into the Rinderberg, Saanersloch and Horneggli area, the largest in the region. Some hotels run a shuttle to Saanen or Schönried station.

Guest card and tax

Hotels in Saanen give the Gstaad Card from the first night, with the Saani Card for children 6 to 12. It covers trains and PostBuses across the Saanenland. Ski passes and the Gstaad lifts are not included. A visitor's tax is charged per night.

Visitor's tax: CHF 5.80 per adult per night, plus a Canton of Bern lodging tax of CHF 1.00 per night. Ages 6 to 12 pay half; under 6 free. Source

Staying in Saanen

How far is Saanen from Gstaad?

About 3 km. The train between the two stations takes about three minutes and PostBus 183 about seven, both free with the Gstaad Card. That puts the Gstaad lifts and the Promenade within easy reach of a Saanen hotel.

Can you ski from your hotel in Saanen?

No. Saanen hotels are in or near the village, not on the slopes. Several run a shuttle from the station, and the train or PostBus reaches the Gstaad and Schönried lifts in minutes, free with the Gstaad Card.
