The Bären is the village inn of Gsteig, a carved wooden building in the centre next to the late-Gothic church. Switzerland's federal heritage inventory dates it to 1756. Its eight rooms are small and simple, from 8.5 to 17.5 m², and the restaurant serves Swiss country cooking all day, with raclette by the open fire in the Füürgruebe in winter and two terraces for warmer days.
Gsteig sits on the road up to Col du Pillon, so the Glacier 3000 cable car is only about 7 km away: roughly eight minutes by car in clear conditions, or 11 minutes on the PostBus. The same owners let eight larger, quieter rooms in the 1905 Sanetsch building next door, about 86 metres away, with check-in and meals at the Bären. It suits skiers, walkers and families who want a real village base close to the glacier.

The Sanetsch rooms next door are 4 standard doubles, 3 comfort doubles with a side room and a suite with two double bedrooms and its own lounge. That building has no reception or breakfast room: you check in and eat at the Bären.
