Hôtel de Ville stands on the village square of Rossinière, a small village of carved wooden chalets in the Pays-d'Enhaut, west of Château-d'Oex. The building went up from 1635 as the commune house and later became the inn La Grue. It lost its clock turret to fire in 1963 and was restored in 2009. The Grand Chalet, Balthus' former home, is a few steps away, though it is private and can only be admired from outside.
The Grand family took the hotel over recently. There are about ten rooms, including family rooms and a top-floor suite with a mountain view. The restaurant is now the Rodeo Bar & Grill, open from morning to late evening. Rossinière has no ski lift, so this is a base for walkers, readers and anyone who prefers a still village to a ski resort.
Rossinière has no lift; the nearest ski areas are at Château-d'Oex and Rougemont. Glacier 3000 at Col du Pillon is about 35 minutes' drive in clear conditions. No seasonal closure is published.
