On our lists

The Alpenrose has been in the von Siebenthal family since 1947 and is now run by the third and fourth generations. It is a 20-room four-star on the village street of Schönried, close to the station, with a lift from the village centre straight up to the Horneggli. Rooms are generous for the size of the house: south-facing doubles of 45 m² with mountain views, junior suites of 55 m² with an open fireplace, and suites of 70 m². Two family rooms and two apartments cover larger groups.

The kitchen is the point. Johannes von Siebenthal took over the gourmet restaurant, Azalée, in 2024; it has a panorama terrace and serves dinner Wednesday to Sunday. In winter Sammy's Grill & Bar adds rotisserie and fondue. Breakfast draws on the neighbouring bakery, the Schönried dairy and eggs from Gstaad. There is no pool, just a small sauna and jacuzzi you book privately.
