Posthotel Rössli or Hotel Olden?

Posthotel Rössli and Hotel Olden are both old inns on the car-free Promenade, a few minutes' walk from Gstaad station, and neither has a spa or a pool. Both are about the village rather than the facilities. The real difference is size and evening mood. The Rössli, run by the Widmer family since 1922, has 21 rooms, from compact doubles to family rooms, and a quiet house where the front door locks at 22.30. The Olden, an inn since 1690, has eight chalet-style suites above a busy ground floor of restaurant, bar and La Cave, the live-music cellar.

The Rössli suits families who need rooms for up to five people or connecting doors, travellers arriving by train, and anyone who likes traditional Swiss cooking and an early night. The Olden suits couples and small groups who want a large suite, up to 103 m² in the neighbouring Chalet Marie, and a lively evening downstairs. Rooms at the Olden are booked through the hotel itself, and it is seasonal, open from 3 December 2026 to 14 March 2027.

Posthotel Rössli has 21 rooms: compact standard doubles with a shower and no balcony, superior rooms with a balcony, and family rooms with at least two extra beds, some with connecting doors. Hotel Olden has eight chalet-style suites, three of them in the neighbouring Chalet Marie at 65 to 103 m², including a penthouse on two floors, with air conditioning.

Food and evenings

Posthotel Rössli serves traditional Swiss food from local suppliers in the Alti Poscht, where the post office counter used to be, and reception closes at 20.00. Hotel Olden has Wo die Welt verkehrt for Mediterranean and international cooking, the Pinte, a bar, and La Cave, with live music and dancing on set dates over Christmas and February.

Season and booking

Posthotel Rössli publishes no closing dates, though its restaurants close on Wednesdays and Thursdays outside the main seasons. In high season the Olden charges the full stay if you cancel within 60 days.

Questions

Do Posthotel Rössli or Hotel Olden have a spa?

No. Neither has a spa or a pool. Hotel Olden lends e-bikes free of charge, and Posthotel Rössli runs a ski-touring week in March with local mountain guides. For a pool on the Promenade side of Gstaad, look at other hotels.
