The Alpina Gstaad or Le Grand Bellevue?

The Alpina Gstaad and Le Grand Bellevue are five-star superior hotels of almost the same size, 56 and 57 rooms, and both have a big spa, pools inside and out, a kids' club and a restaurant with 16 points in Gault&Millau 2027. Neither is on the slopes; both use a shuttle. The real difference is where they stand. The Alpina sits on a sunny slope above the village, a modern chalet with a terrace for every room. Le Grand Bellevue, a 1912 cure house, stands in its own park at the entrance to the car-free Promenade.

The Alpina suits couples and families who want a quiet base above the village, two restaurants to alternate between, and a free shuttle to the Eggli, Wispile and Wasserngrat lifts from 9.00 to midnight. Le Grand Bellevue suits spa-goers, families with children aged 2 to 5, and couples who like dinner settled, since winter rates include a three-course dinner at Leonard's. It also stays open later, to 29 March 2027, for anyone planning a late-season trip.

Where they differ

Location

The Alpina Gstaad is on the hillside just above the village, so the Promenade is a shuttle ride or a walk downhill. Le Grand Bellevue stands at the entrance to the car-free Promenade, so the shops and cafés of Gstaad are a short walk. Le Grand Bellevue warns that two new chalets are going up next door until 2028, with possible daytime noise.

Spa and pools

The Alpina Gstaad has the Six Senses Spa with a 25 m indoor pool, a hammam, hot and cold plunge pools and a heated outdoor pool. Le Grand Bellevue's spa covers 3,000 m², with 17 heat and water zones including hay and herbal saunas and a salt grotto, a 15 m indoor pool and a heated outdoor pool. Swimmers get the longer pool at the Alpina; spa-goers get more variety at the Bellevue.

Food

The Alpina Gstaad has two restaurants with 16 points in Gault&Millau 2027, Megu for Japanese and Monti for Italian sharing plates, plus a Swiss Stübli. Le Grand Bellevue has Leonard's, also 16 points in Gault&Millau 2027, and its winter rates include a three-course dinner there, so evenings are taken care of without booking a table each night.

Families and season

Le Grand Bellevue's Polar Bear Kids' Club takes children aged 2 to 5 and runs from 18 December to 14 March. The Alpina Gstaad's Tree House Club looks after children, with under-4s accompanied. The Alpina is open from 11 December 2026 to 7 March 2027; Le Grand Bellevue from 18 December 2026 to 29 March 2027.
