On our lists

The Rössli is part of the old heart of the Promenade. The building goes back to about 1823, became a guesthouse in 1845 and later held the post office, and it came through the village fire of 1898. The Widmer family has owned it since 1922, and Conroy Widmer, the fourth generation, runs it today. The station is about two minutes away on foot.

There are 21 rooms, from compact standard doubles with a shower to superior rooms with a balcony, plus family rooms with extra beds, some with connecting doors. The restaurant Alti Poscht, in old wood where the post office counter used to be, serves traditional Swiss food from local suppliers, and the summer terrace looks onto the Promenade. There is no pool or spa. In March the hotel runs a ski-touring week with local mountain guides. It suits travellers who want character and a central address more than facilities.
